Digital Mapping applied to Archaeological Research

Santarém PA 2.jpg

The project consisted of planning and executing thematic digital mapping to support archaeological research, both in executive projects and in projects associated with contracts.

Project linked to Prehistoric and Historical Archeology, respectively in Santarém-PA (studies focused on soil types) and Serra do Cabral-MG (studies focused on historical human occupation and landscape changes). In both cases, the common objective was to recognize patterns present in LANDSAT satellite images, with the support of field work aimed at cartographic mapping of Earth use and vegetation cover.

Classic patterns of land use and vegetation cover were used: urban areas, vegetation, water bodies; rocky outcrops. Drainage patterns and types of relief were studied from the processed images.

In archaeological research on a regional scale, patterns were identified on RGB images, with the production of maps and thematic charts.
